Held on 9–10 June 2026 as part of the first Digital Ocean Week, the 9th Copernicus Marine General Assembly gathered representatives of European institutions, Member States, scientific organisations and operational partners to review the service’s achievements and discuss its future direction.
Implemented by Mercator Ocean International on behalf of the European Commission, the Copernicus Marine Service provides trusted ocean data and forecasts to support research, public policy, business and society. The Assembly highlighted its continued evolution towards more integrated, accessible and actionable ocean intelligence, supported by advances in digital infrastructure, international cooperation and artificial intelligence.

Weekly Marine Heatwave BulletinsWeekly forecasts and analysis of marine heatwave events across the globe and throughout the year. Used datasets include observations (satellite sea surface temperature maps) and numerical model analyses (assimilating satellite and in situ observations) to derive 10-day marine heatwave forecasts.
Monthly Ocean Temperature BulletinsThe Ocean temperature bulletins provide a comprehensive overview of global ocean warming, highlighting new temperature records and their impact as a source of stress on marine ecosystems. These bulletins are available on a monthly basis throughout the year.
Seasonal Sea Ice BulletinsMercator Ocean oceanographers have been studying marine heatwaves across the global Ocean. They analyse a variety of datasets from observation analyses (satellite sea surface temperature maps) to model analyses (assimilating satellite and in situ observations) and model forecasts.
