The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) has published its Assessment Report on European Air Quality 2025, confirming improving air quality trends in Europe for most of the pollutants regulated by the Ambient Air Quality Directive as emissions of major pollutants decline across Europe.
However, air pollution episodes persist, in particular under cold and stable meteorological conditions in winter and heatwaves in summer. In addition, Europe experienced severe wildfires that contributed to particulate matter episodes during the summer of 2025.
