Former climate scientists and communicators from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have launched an independent website called Climate.us after the Trump administration shut down Climate.gov and cut staffing at the agency. The new platform aims to preserve trusted climate data, educational resources, and scientific analysis that had long been available to researchers, educators, journalists, and the public.
The nonprofit initiative recreates much of the content and functionality of the former government website while adding new material reviewed by climate experts. Its founders say the goal is to ensure that reliable climate information remains publicly accessible regardless of political changes, helping people make informed decisions about climate risks, weather, and environmental planning.
The launch has drawn widespread attention as an example of scientists working to preserve public access to research and data. While Climate.us is not an official government website, its creators hope it will continue the educational mission of Climate.gov by providing evidence-based climate information for communities around the world.
